This fabulous immersion begins with a gourmet breakfast, allowing collectors and novices to get acquainted. After a brief historical overview of watchmaking, everyone takes their place at their own watchmaker’s bench. All the necessary tools to disassemble the precious mechanical movement are provided. The initiation begins… Wheels, gears, crowns, hands, barrels, balances, pinions, anchors, ratchets, plates, calibers, bridges… Everything that makes up the basics of a mechanical watch movement will be revealed to the lucky participants. To understand this exact science, there is nothing better than disassembling a mechanism: unscrewing, dismantling, and carefully sorting these tiny components. A pass of the plate through various solvent baths ensures a perfect cleaning of the fine mechanics. The pieces are then ready to be reassembled. With concentration and precision, the participant finally sees the heart of the watch movement beat, a magical and intense moment. The final stage of the training involves lubricating the parts before testing the watch on a vibrograph to assess its regularity and optimize its accuracy. The day concludes with a diploma ceremony validating the newly acquired knowledge.
Of course, the day is an opportunity to meet passionate collectors of vintage watches who list their various trophiesa 78 Rolex GMT, an 82 Daytona, a 78 Jaeger, or a 65 Zenith… Each watch being the result of extensive searching among specialists, in auction rooms, or simply online.
Such is the pleasure that only one desire arises: to start again as soon as possible!
Initiation and advanced courses in mechanical watchmaking: from €260 to €530 (including lunch, materials, and lessons).
